Hastings is aiming to strengthen its tourism relationship with China, with a new year-long programme. More than 30 regions in China are being invited to send a gift to Hastings, with items unique to their region. Hastings will then send a return gift. The aim is for the gifts to become part of a secondary school competition, similar to the Amazing China Face Race, where students will guess what region each box comes from. Hastings was the first city in New Zealand to have a sister city in China, making ties between the two strong.
