Kids 4 Humanity from Hastings Christian School are Hawke’s Bay regional champions for The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme. The students created Go Ika, an interactive card game the whole family can enjoy, with the goal of keeping our tamariki safe. The game teaches children the fundamentals of safety, in everyday situations, such as crossing the road, swimming in the sea, riding a bike, down to more serious issues such as what do in a tsunami or if you are receiving strange messages online. To win the regional title, five teams were selected from 74 teams across Hawke’s Bay. The top five completed a variety of business challenges during the year, culminating in pitching their business to a panel of judges last night. The judging panel included Paulina Wilhelm of Napier City Council, Kim Herrick of Hastings District Council and Jeriel Sajan an Ex YES student and Youth Mentor. Kids 4 Humanity will head to Wellington on December 4 to compete for the title of, The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme Company of the Year. An added excitement to the award ceremony was the announcement that 2 of only 13 National Excellence Awards have been awarded to Hawke’s Bay students. Sam Wixon from Havelock North High School with his business Te Kete o Tangaroa and Karamu High School with their business Soil Sorb will both receive their awards in Wellington later this year.
