Bay Tours & Charters have just released their biannual Leisure Guide for Hawke’s Bay Seniors. If you haven’t heard of Bay Tours & Charters before, let’s introduce the Tour Club…
Bay Tours is a locally owned Hawke’s Bay tour company who have, for more than 30 years, been providing Hawke’s Bay seniors with fully hosted group tours throughout New Zealand and particularly in our own backyard here in Hawke’s Bay. The senior travellers are known as the Tour Club. In more recent years Bay Tours has offered a range of services to tourists visiting Hawke’s Bay including wine tours, private charters and bus hire. However the main focus has always remained on providing a wide variety of experiences for locals through the Tour Club.
The Tour Club is completely free to join. Every 6 months the ‘Leisure Guide’ is released which lists all of the upcoming trips and tours you can join. The new Leisure Guide has day tours starting from $90 and also focuses on visiting some of New Zealand iconic ‘bucket list’ destinations. And of course, they love visiting and supporting some of the very best Hawke’s Bay restaurants, country pubs and artisan retailers as well as local highlights. The range and choice of our tours is extensive.
The local Tour Club members value the lifelong friendships created by joining the travel club and, most importantly, they love how easy and fun group travel with like-minded individuals really is!
An example of one of the most anticipated upcoming trips (and for those particularly missing overseas travel) is the annual Chatham Islands tour. The Chathams are as unique and beautiful as anywhere in New Zealand. You will explore every aspect of the island and meet the locals for a true immersion. On the last tour to the Chatham Islands Bay Tours & Charters visited the Admiral Gardens which is Val & Lois Croon’s effort to replant native flora. After discovering how much of a problem Possums were becoming on the island, the tour club group took action.
Grant Ancell (one of the Bay Tours club members) led the initiative and organised the collection of donations from those travellers that wanted to contribute and the subsequent purchase of 6 opossum traps to be sent over to the Chatham Islands to combat the pests (photo attached of some of the group with their donated traps). On our next trip we hope to hear how well they have been working!
