Fermented Olives Win Gold For Telegraph Hill

Telegraph Hill has won one gold and three silver medals, plus two show Champion awards at the Royal Easter Show Olive Oil Awards. Telegraph Hill took the champion awards for table olives with their Kalamata olives and Champion Flavoured Table Olives for their Burnt Orange and Fennel Olives. These awards are run by the Auckland A&P show team who hold their annual show during Easter, with a specific olive oil and table olive competition at this time of year to coincide with the release of the new seasons olive products. A panel of judges evaluate extra virgin olive oils and olives from all around the country. “We’ve won awards in previous years for the olives in NZ and Australian competitions, but to get the champion award for both categories is something the whole team are proud of” says Geoff Crawford. “Kalamata olives are known for being the most popular eating olive in the world, so its satisfying that we can make champion olives here in New Zealand.’ Both the Kalamata olive products in the Telegraph Hill range are award winners. What was especially pleasing this year was the Gold medal for the Burnt Orange and Fennel Olives, as this is the second Gold medal awarded for these Olives to Telegraph Hill. Telegraph Hill olives are all grown in Hawke’s Bay and naturally fermented to produce the best flavours. Natural Fermentation takes from 6 to 8 months after harvest due to this time lag and associated cost it is the step often skipped by the big producers. 2018 Easter Show Olive Oil Awards, October 2018
