Rob Fyfe will be the first Napier City Council Business Breakfast speaker this year, on Monday 4 March.
Best known for his role as CEO of two iconic New Zealand brands; Air New Zealand and Icebreaker, Rob has had a varied business career over the last 35 years both in New Zealand and internationally, including banking, telecommunications, and television.
Having left school to join the Royal New Zealand Air Force, Rob completed an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Canterbury.
During Rob’s stint at the controls of Air NZ, between 2005 and 2012, the company won every Best Airline in the World award worth having. He also oversaw the 2017 sale of the iconic Icebreaker company to the VF Corporation, the US giant that has The North Face, Vans and Timberlands in its stable.
“Dare to be different’ is Rob’s mantra for success in today’s competitive environment. “A business needs to be authentic. And the benefits are obvious – not only do you attract more customers, you get the right people to work for you.”
Rob is currently on the Boards of Michael Hill International and Air Canada and is a strategic advisor to Craggy Range Wines and the New Zealand Government on the Pike River Mine re-entry. He is also a strategic advisor to the CEOs of VF Corporation and
Icebreaker on supply chain ethics and the issues of modern slavery and human trafficking, and is the New Zealand Representative for the Bali Process Government and Business Forum.
In 2015 Rob was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Commerce from the University of Canterbury.
