Les Misérables is an epic tale of broken dreams, passion and redemption set against a nation in the throes of revolution.
Directed by Lisa Jane Easter with Musical Direction from Mark Oldershaw, Les Mis opens for a limited season at the Napier Municipal Theatre on 16th May 2019 and runs until June 1st 2019.
Winner of over 100 international awards and seen by over 65 million people worldwide, Les Misérables is an uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit. In nineteenth century France, Jean Valjean is released from 19 years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a lifelong struggle for redemption relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert. This true modern classic is based on Victor Hugo’s novel and features one of the most memorable scores of all time.
The original production in Napier in 1995 sold out a 3 week season prior to opening night, and played to a total audience of more than 25,000 patrons making it the most successful musical to ever be staged in this city.
Producing a show of this magnitude is no mean feat. As part of a nation-wide consortium Napier Operatic Society has purchased an incredible set and beautiful costumes, and experienced technicians travel with the set to help our local crew. Lighting, special effects, makeup and a 16-piece orchestra will all combine to produce a thrilling performance.
Tickets can also be bought at any ticketek office/the Napier Municipal Theatre.
