Hawke’s Bay farmers put a rural spin on a Stunning Wedding Venue

Matt and Kerri, along with their two young children, became the proud owners of Meadowood in May 2024. Though their background is in sheep and beef farming, not weddings, they’ve embraced the challenge wholeheartedly. Initially focused on weddings, they’ve expanded Meadowood to cater to a variety of events, from corporate functions and Christmas parties to milestone birthdays and multi-day weddings.

“Meadowood has so much potential and is a truly magical venue with its unique tipi setup,” says Kerri. “We strive to cater to all functions, big and small.”

They encourage couples to make the venue their own, with ample space to bring in personal touches – whether that’s styling, machinery like tractors or vintage cars, or even fur babies. With a vision to become a walk-in, walk-out venue, Matt and Kerri are working towards offering full event packages, taking care of every detail except for the entertainment.

“Our goal is to make everything stress-free and affordable for young couples,” says Matt. “We want guests to relax and enjoy their day while we handle all the nitty-gritty details.”

As they settle into the venue, they plan to shift Meadowood’s current vintage/antique styling towards a more rural, country feel, adding their own personal touch.

Meadowood is a new and exciting venture for the family, blending work and lifestyle in a unique way. “You don’t get many jobs where you spend all day with your husband and kids in tow,” Kerri adds. “It’s a great way to show our kids what you can achieve when you work hard and work together.”

When they’re not at Meadowood, Matt and Kerri are busy managing their sheep and beef farm in Poukawa, finishing livestock during the quieter winter months. With no additional staff, they are hands-on in both ventures. “What you see is what you get,” says Matt, reflecting on their upbringing and the farming lifestyle that defines them.

Their kids love the country life, often asking for their gumboots first thing in the morning, eager to get out to the farm or hop into the tractor. Rain or shine, Matt and Kerri are passionate about what they do, and they couldn’t imagine doing it anywhere else but the beautiful Hawke’s Bay.
