Tired and stressed from a tough job in HR, Toby Payton made the decision to give up big city life to move to a coastal town – and work in a much more creative, hands-on role.
Just over four years ago, he and his young family – fiancée Lucie Maslen and sons Barnabas, now 6 and Rufus, 4 – moved from Auckland to Haumoana, Hawke’s Bay.
They bought a house, and Toby is now making a name for himself with his colourful concrete basins, bathtubs and benchtops.
Raw Concrete Design is cashing in on a soaring trend for coloured concrete – pink, green, red, blue and gold basins sit alongside more conventional “neutral” concrete basins and tubs. And it’s fair to say most of the benchtops he makes are variations on concrete in white, grey and black.
